A family dentist does more than just clean and polish your teeth, and when it comes to the health of your family’s smiles, you need a dentist nearby that you can trust. At AZ Dental Wellness of Scottsdale, Dr. Rogel Carlos provides gentle, effective dental care for all ages in a family-friendly atmosphere. Learn more about dental care through every stage of life below!
Taking care of your young child’s mouth
It can be easy to think that it isn’t important to take care of a baby’s teeth – they fall out, so why do they matter? In fact, they are very important! Healthy baby teeth serve several functions, including:
- Helping your child learn how to say certain sounds correctly and communicate well
- Holding space for your child’s adult teeth to grow in
- Keeping your child free from pain due to decay or disease
- Giving your child confidence to smile around their peers and adults
As soon as your child’s first tooth erupts, it becomes susceptible to tooth decay. Gently wiping your baby’s gums with a wet softcloth every day will help remove debris and any leftover sugars or starches that can cause inflammation and decay. As your child’s teeth begin to grow in, you can start by brushing them with a child-sized, soft-bristled toothbrush and warm water, and gradually begin to use small amounts of fluoride-free toothpaste to brush the teeth.
We also suggest taking your child into the dentist by the age of one so that we can help answer any questions you have about your child’s oral health and development, establish dental care for your child, and help them feel comfortable and form positive experiences in the dental chair from an early age.
Dental care for older children
As your child grows older, a lot of exciting oral health developments occur! They begin brushing their teeth on their own, losing their baby teeth, and growing in permanent teeth. As your child begins taking care of their teeth on their own, it is important to supervise to make sure that they are brushing for a full two minutes twice a day, getting every surface of their teeth, and flossing daily. As their adult molars come in, we may recommend preventative dental sealants to help protect all the deep grooves and crevices from being susceptible to decay and cavities. Fluoride treatments can also help keep your child’s teeth strong and healthy.
At routine hygiene visits, we professionally clean your child’s teeth and talk about the proper techniques for brushing and flossing in a fun and engaging way. We also take the time to carefully examine the teeth, gums, and jaw to ensure that they are developing properly.
Children may form cavities or have other dental issues that need treatment. We provide tooth-colored fillings and make the experience comfortable, so your child is happy and relaxed during the procedure. If your teenager’s teeth are crooked or they have a bite problem, we can correct the issues embarrassment-free and comfortably with Invisalign.
Adult dental care
Preventive care is just as important for adults as it is for children. We provide routine cleanings and check-ups and use state-of-the-art technology to diagnose and treat any conditions that may arise. As we age, our teeth naturally become weaker and more susceptible to decay, discoloration, and other issues. Dr. Rogel Carlos treats every patient with a blend of precision and compassion to help them restore their smiles in a way that suits their individual needs and preferences while bringing health and function back to their teeth and gums. In addition, Dr. Carlos understands that it isn’t just important that your teeth are healthy – you need to feel confident about the appearance of your smile too! That’s why we offer a variety of cosmetic dental treatments as well.
Common restorative and cosmetic treatments we offer include:
- Tooth-colored fillings
- Dental implants
- Tooth whitening
- Invisalign teeth straightening
- Clear Correct
